National Internship Portal for Students: Eligibility, Domains & Application Process

By Yuvraj Nimankar | Updated 21 October 2026

The National Internship Portal for Students helps students explore internship opportunities across different domains and understand the application process. Three layers determine whether you qualify: the portal’s eligibility requirements, the rules for each internship posting, and any additional conditions set by the host organisation. The application process also involves four parties: you, your college, the host organisation and the portal. This guide explains eligibility requirements, shows how to search for domains using relevant keywords, outlines each party’s responsibilities, and walks through six student profiles, from first-year students to MBA candidates.

What we checked

We read the portal’s home page, student registration form and several posting excerpts earlier in this review, then reviewed third-party guides on 21 October 2026. The portal later blocked our automated access, so we could not re-read it today. Evidence is labelled Portal (an official page we read) or Reported (a guide we could not confirm). We could not log in or browse live postings.

Eligibility, in three layers

A “yes” at one layer does not carry to the next.

Layer What decides it Where to read it Typical trap
Portal Enrolled student with a student ID and an ID card image Registration form Assuming the portal is only for AICTE colleges
Scheme or department Streams or tracks the department accepts Department page A department listing six streams that excludes yours
Posting Degree, specialisation, year, graduation window, CGPA, availability The posting’s “who can apply” box Reading only the title

At the portal layer, non-AICTE students are explicitly included through the Non-AICTE option, which covers UGC, IGNOU and other institutions. At the posting layer, rules can be strict. An archived highway-ministry posting from 2023 asked for final-year civil students with a CGPA of at least 7.0, and an archived rural posting required graduation in 2020–21 or later.

Claims you will see in guides, and what the evidence shows

Third-party guides contradict each other, so check the claims before you rely on them.

Claim in guides What we found
“Only from the second year onwards” One guide says so, another says any year and branch, and a third gives second and third year for one specific program. The portal’s own FAQ on this was not visible to us. Each posting sets its own rule
“Only AICTE-approved institutions” The portal’s wording and form include UGC, IGNOU and other students
“You need an AICTE student ID from the portal” The form we read asks for your institute’s student ID or enrolment number and an ID card image
“Every listing is approved by AICTE, so fake offers are impossible” The portal says employers go through a vetting desk, but we cannot audit it. Verify each host yourself
“There is no last date” One guide says the portal is open all year. That is about registration. Every posting has its own deadline

First-year students: several guides say they can register and build a profile early, but that most postings prefer the second year. Treat that as likely, not confirmed.

Am I eligible? A checklist

  • Am I currently enrolled, with a student ID and an ID card? Yes / No
  • Did I pick the right category (AICTE-affiliated or Non-AICTE)? Yes / No
  • Does my stream appear in the posting’s list? Yes / No
  • Do my year, specialisation and graduation window match the posting? Yes / No
  • Can I commit the full period and reach the location? Yes / No

If the first answer is No, call the helpline before you spend time on registration. For any other No, move to a different posting, not a different portal.

Domains: how to search them

The home page groups engineering openings into eight stream areas and lists many more streams for non-engineering students. Rather than repeat those lists (see our [domains guide: add link]), here is a keyword cheat sheet. Search by keyword because host cards labelled “View roles” link to searches and not to dedicated pages.

Your stream Keywords to try Host types you may find
Computer science and IT Software, Cloud, Full Stack, DevOps Corporate teams, skilling cohorts, public technology
AI and data Machine Learning, Analytics, GenAI Skilling cohorts, research bodies
Electronics VLSI, Embedded, IoT Device makers, college labs
Mechanical and aerospace CAD, Robotics, Manufacturing, Aero Design-software programs, plants, aerospace firms
Civil and architecture Structural, Surveying, BIM, Urban Highway units, city bodies, water missions
Electrical and energy Power, Solar, EV, Controls State utilities and energy firms
Chemical, biotech, pharma Process, Biotech, Pharma QA Few named hosts, so expect keyword results
Management and commerce Finance, Marketing, Operations Cooperative bodies, corporate hub
Law and policy Law, Policy, Research Ministries, research units
Design and media UI/UX, Graphic, Video, Content Corporate and brand teams

Search each keyword with the duration filter on, then with the mode filter. Do not rely on a host’s brand name alone, since a famous name with no live posting leads nowhere.

The application process: who does what

Stage You Your college The host The portal
Profile Complete every field accurately Validates your profile and availability None Stores one profile
Search and shortlist Filter and read postings None Publishes postings with stipend, credits and deadline Matches and ranks openings, per its claim
Apply Apply before the deadline None Receives applications Tracks them
Review Wait; keep contact details current None Reviews and shortlists Employers respond inside it
Offer Accept or decline within the stated time May need to approve Issues the offer Records it
Internship Do the work, meet any report or presentation rule May count it Supervises and assesses None
Completion Collect the certificate Decides on credits Marks the internship complete Issues a QR-verifiable certificate

The first and last columns matter most. Your college controls validation and credits, and the host controls completion. Neither is something you can speed up on the portal itself.

Where applications stall, and what to do

  • Profile not validated. Ask your training and placement officer to check it, and tell them which postings you are targeting.
  • No response from a host. The portal publishes no response times, so apply to several postings instead of waiting on one.
  • An offer with a short acceptance window. Check your email and portal notifications daily during review.
  • Completion not marked. Ask your mentor to mark the internship complete as soon as it ends. See our [certificate guide: add link].

Keep your bank details ready, since the portal says stipends are paid to your bank account.

Six student profiles

Student Eligibility check Search approach Format to aim for Watch out for
First-year diploma student at an AICTE polytechnic Register now; read each posting’s year rule Keywords from your trade, such as “CAD” or “Electrical” Weekly or short monthly Postings that want a year of coursework
Second-year engineering student Usually the earliest year many postings accept Your branch keyword plus “Remote” Monthly, 1 to 2 months over a break Training cohorts that carry no stipend
Third-year B.Com student at a UGC university Register through the Non-AICTE option “Finance,” “Management,” “Cooperative” Monthly Postings limited to specific graduate windows
Final-year B.Tech student Check CGPA and graduation-year lines Branch plus “Semester” Semester-length, for credits College approval before you accept
MBA or PGDM student Check whether the posting names postgraduates “Management,” “Marketing,” “Operations” Monthly or semester Field-based public postings far from your city
IGNOU distance learner Use your university ID card; confirm with the helpline if unsure The Remote & Hybrid filter Weekly or monthly On-site postings that clash with work

A recent graduate without a student ID should ask the helpline before registering. The home page lists a “Young Professional” login without explaining it.

Mistakes that cost applications

  • Choosing the wrong category. AICTE-affiliated and Non-AICTE paths differ, and the employer and institution categories sit on the same screen.
  • Applying only to your first choice. The portal publishes no selection rates, so spread your applications.
  • Skipping your college. Validation and credits both need your institute.
  • Reading the title and not the box. Year, graduation window and CGPA sit in the posting body.
  • Assuming every listing is safe because it is on the portal. Check the host and read the stipend line.
  • Using a stale guide. Several guides we read describe different year rules, so use the posting.

Saiket Systems Internships 2026

Students and freshers looking to gain practical experience can also explore Saiket Systems Internships 2026. The program offers opportunities across technology domains such as Python, Machine Learning, Data Science, Web Development, and Software Development, with a focus on practical projects and skill development. Internship duration and eligibility may vary by role, so review the current details before applying.

Ready to get started? Explore available domains and apply through the official Saiket Systems Internship page.

Is it worth it?

Yes. For a free profile that reaches many hosts, with college validation and a QR-verifiable certificate, the effort is low and the downside is small. It works best if you complete your profile, get it validated, and apply to a mix of postings in two or three domains.

Its limits are the same for everyone. It does not guarantee selection, a stipend or credits, and it publishes no data on selection rates by domain. Treat it as a high-quality application channel, not a placement route.

FAQs

Is there a minimum CGPA? There is no portal-wide minimum. Individual postings can set one, such as the 7.0 in the 2023 highway example.

Is there an age limit? We found none published for the portal. Guides say the Army programme requires Indian citizenship, and postings may state their own conditions.

Can international students apply? One guide says the portal is for Indian students only. We could not confirm it, so ask the helpline.

What if my college is not in the institute list? Try the Non-AICTE route, then ask your training and placement officer or the helpline.

Can I apply without a student ID? The registration form asks for one, plus an ID card image.

Do I need to be in the final year? There is no universal rule. Read each posting.

When is the last date to register? One guide says registration is open all year. Each posting has its own deadline.
