AICTE Virtual Internship 2026: Best Domains for Students

By Yuvraj Nimankar | Updated 17 October 2026

We are not connected to AICTE, EduSkills Foundation, the National Internship Portal or any partner company.

The AICTE virtual internship is not one program. On the National Internship Portal, the postings that carry this label are mostly run by training partners, chiefly EduSkills Foundation. They combine self-paced modules, a final project and a joint certificate, last about eight weeks, and pay no stipend. This guide compares the domains on offer, explains how enrolment works, and helps you choose one before the next short application window opens.

Enrolment status

Not open in the postings we found, as of 17 October 2026. The two most recent EduSkills postings we could see on the portal had application deadlines of 30 April and 30 June 2026. The portal’s EduSkills page invites students to complete their profile now so they can apply in one click when the next cohort is published. We could not browse the live listing, so check for a newer posting before you assume nothing is open.

Quick overview

Item Detail
Run by Partners listed on the National Internship Portal, mainly EduSkills Foundation
Mode Virtual (online)
Duration 8 weeks, shown as 2 months in one posting
Stipend ₹0 per month in both postings we saw
Credits 2 in the Juniper posting; the AWS posting did not show a figure in the excerpt we read
Who can join Students of BE, B.Tech, ME, M.Tech, MCA, Diploma and similar courses at institutions that are EduSkills members
Branch and year Any branch and any year, per the Juniper posting
Cost to student ₹0
Registration Two places: the AICTE portal and the EduSkills portal
Certificate “AICTE EduSkills Final Internship Certificate,” after all modules and the project
Application window Two to three weeks per posting (9 April to 30 April; 17 June to 30 June)

The last row matters most. A window of two to three weeks leaves little time to sort out registration problems, so prepare before a cohort opens.

How it works

The sequence below follows the process flow printed in the portal’s postings.

  1. Register on the AICTE portal and apply to the specific posting.
  2. Register on the EduSkills portal as well. The postings say all students must do both.
  3. Your institute receives the list of registered students.
  4. EduSkills shortlists students, who are then enrolled on the EduSkills Academy portal and get course access. Shortlisting means not everyone who applies gets in.
  5. You complete the modules and a project, with faculty guidance on the project, according to the Juniper posting.
  6. You receive the certificate once all modules and the project are done.

The most common failure points are the second registration and your institute’s membership. Eligibility depends on your college being an EduSkills member. Ask your training and placement officer before a window opens, not during it.

Is it a real internship?

It is closer to a guided course with a capstone than to a job placement. You learn from modules at your own pace and submit a project. No team assigns you daily work, and the postings do not describe an employer evaluation. That is still useful, especially for beginners, but it changes how you should describe it.

On a resume, write “completed the AWS Cloud GenAI virtual internship program (8 weeks, capstone project)” instead of “worked as a cloud engineer intern.” An interviewer will ask what you built, so the project matters more than the label.

On credits, the Juniper posting lists 2. One guide we read claims 4 to 12 credits under some colleges’ rules, but that conflicts with the posting. Trust the posting, and ask your college how it counts virtual internships before you rely on credits.

How we pick “best” domains

The portal publishes no ranking, no demand data and no selection rates, so we use criteria of our own:

  • Transferable across branches, so a student outside computer science can still benefit.
  • Hands-on component, such as labs, simulations or a build-and-submit project.
  • A credential you can describe, like a vendor-linked track or a named certificate.
  • Beginner access, meaning the prerequisites are realistic for a second-year student.

Brand names come last. A famous partner on a track you cannot finish helps no one.

The main domains

The portal lists these tracks or partners. Items marked “reported” come from third-party guides that we could not confirm on the portal.

Domain What we saw Best for Prerequisite we would expect Add this beyond the course
Cloud and generative AI AWS Cloud GenAI (8 weeks, supported by AWS Academy); EduSkills page also lists Azure and Google Cloud tracks CSE, IT, ECE, MCA Basic programming and networking ideas A small deployed project with a cost note
AI and machine learning EduSkills lists AI/ML; Edunet cohorts with IBM SkillsBuild and Microsoft offer AI tracks and a mentored capstone CSE, AI & DS, anyone with Python Python basics and elementary statistics A model with a baseline and an honest evaluation
Cybersecurity and networking Juniper Networking Cloud (2 months); Cisco Networking Academy tracks with Packet Tracer and CCNA; Palo Alto, Fortinet and Red Hat reported ECE, CSE, IT, EEE Networking basics: IP, routing, ports A written lab report of a network you built or secured on a practice setup
Engineering simulation MathWorks MATLAB and Simulink program, described as fully online and open to any AICTE-registered student Mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical Basic calculus and matrix ideas One modelled system with assumptions stated
Business platforms Salesforce and ServiceNow tracks, including CRM, workflow and low-code app building Any branch, MBA and MCA Comfort with software; coding is optional A small workflow or app you can demonstrate
Databases and app building MongoDB with SmartBridge: build a full application with schema design, queries and deployment CSE, IT A programming language A repository and a short design note
Green skills Edunet cohorts with Shell, and 1M1B with Salesforce, which pair training with a sustainability project Any branch None specific A short measured impact note

Cloud and cybersecurity appear most often in the postings we found, which suggests they are the regular EduSkills tracks. Whether they are the most demanded is unknown.

Which domain for which student

This is our reasoning, not a portal recommendation.

Your situation Domain to consider Why
CSE or IT, second or third year Cloud and GenAI, or AI/ML Closest to common placement skills, but also the most crowded
ECE or EEE Cybersecurity and networking, or MATLAB simulation Uses your signals and systems knowledge in a different setting
Mechanical, civil or chemical Engineering simulation, or business platforms Few cloud-style tracks fit your branch, and these need no coding background
Diploma or first year Business platforms, or a beginner networking track Prerequisites are lower
MCA or M.Tech Cloud with GenAI, or databases and app building Builds on programming you already have
Undecided The track with the clearest final project You leave with something to show

If two domains tie, choose the one whose project you could explain to a stranger in two minutes.

Choosing within a domain

  • Vendor-specific or general? An AWS or Cisco track teaches that vendor’s tools, which helps if the employer uses them and less otherwise. Check whether the track teaches concepts you can move elsewhere.
  • Is there a lab or only videos? Hands-on practice sticks better than watching.
  • Is the project assessed? A project that someone reviews teaches more than one that is only uploaded.
  • How many hours a week? The postings do not say. A realistic plan for 8 weeks is 6 to 10 hours a week (our estimate), so check that it fits your timetable.

Prepare before a window opens

Because the windows are short, do these now:

  • Complete your profile on the National Internship Portal. The portal’s EduSkills page asks you to do exactly this. Our [portal registration guide: add link] covers it.
  • Register on the EduSkills portal, and use the same name, email and college details on both.
  • Ask your training and placement officer whether your institute is an EduSkills member.
  • Pick two preferred domains, so a full or closed cohort does not leave you stranded.

Common mistakes

  • Registering on only one portal. The postings say both are required.
  • Waiting for the announcement. A two-week window disappears quickly.
  • Mismatched details. Different names or college spellings on the two portals can delay shortlisting.
  • Choosing by logo. Pick the track you can finish and show.
  • Copying the capstone. A project you cannot explain fails in interviews.
  • Using unofficial links. Guides report fake registration pages circulating on messaging apps. Type the portal addresses yourself, and remember that registration is free.

Is it worth it?

Yes, as a structured and free way to add one tested skill and a project, especially if you want something to show before placement season. It helps most if you choose a domain that fits your branch and finish the project properly.

The limits are plain. It pays no stipend, it is mostly self-paced learning, and shortlisting means you may not get a seat. The credential is a training certificate, not employment. Pair it with a project of your own, and your college’s view of credits remains a separate question.

A realistic 8-week plan

Weeks Focus
1 Set up accounts and tools; read the whole syllabus; fix a weekly time slot
2 to 3 Finish the foundation modules; keep short notes in your own words
4 to 5 Complete the hands-on labs; redo any lab you only watched
6 Choose the project topic; write what it must do in three lines
7 Build and test; keep a log of what failed
8 Submit, then write a one-page summary of what you built and learned

Start the project earlier than the final week, because the final submission is what the certificate depends on.

FAQs

Is the AICTE virtual internship paid? The two postings we saw list ₹0 stipend. Check each posting.

Is it the same as the National Internship Portal? The portal hosts the postings, but the training runs on the partner’s own platform, such as EduSkills, so you register on both.

Can I join if my college is not an EduSkills member? The postings say participants should be at member institutions. Ask your college or EduSkills.

Can I do more than one cohort? The postings we read do not say. Ask before you apply to two at once.

Where do I verify the certificate? See our [certificate guide: add link]. Guides report a separate EduSkills verification page, which we could not confirm.

Are there fees? The portal says registration, applications and the completion certificate cost students nothing. Report anyone who asks for payment to internship@aicte-india.org.
